Mike never failed to call on Father's Day. He'd say hello to me, but he always wanted me to hand the phone off to Rob. He said Rob was as much a father to him as his own dad was in many ways. Rob was the one who made me stick by tough love when Mike was going through his drug-and-alcohol mess. And he was always there to reach out and help Mike when he needed it.
So, it was a quiet day. We went to church and went for a short hike.
But things are bubbling with lifeomike.org. We're going to hold a "Healthcare for All" rally in Savannah the week before Labor Day. We hope to be able to hold it near the hospital where he got such bad care, but we're not going negative.
Was it legal for the doctor not to tell him his colon was blocked? Apparently so. Was it moral? Absolutely not.
It's time to fix our broken health system so that doctors and hospitals don't have to make immoral decisions just to stay in business.
