I heard from the lawyer today. It seems the doctor who withheld information about a life-threatening medical condition from Michael didn't do anything actionable. That's right, it's perfectly legal in Georgia to not inform a patient that his colon is blocked and he could die. It might be immoral, but it isn't actionable because Georgia has had "tort reform," which protects the wealthy and powerful. Since Mike didn't die right away, the doctor and the hospital can just skip away,
I'm so angry about that. I really don't want money, but I want SOMEONE to admit that what happened to my child was wrong. Instead, the hospital and the doctor get to flip the finger at us and say, "You can't touch me."
So, maybe what needs to happen is a Life o' Mike rally on the sidewalk in front of Memorial Health, in front of the TV cameras. Me clutching a photo of my beloved son and dozens of his friends and family members behind me, grieving for a remarkable human being who mattered so much to us and so little to a corrupt, greedy system.
I know I'm one of hundreds of thousands of people who have lost a loved one because he or she didn't have health insurance or money.
How immoral we are as a society to let this happen to so many people. How sad that there is so little outrage over this crime.
