It wasn't a bad day until I was on the way home and I was listening to Thom Hartmann on the radio. His guest was a conservative named Terry Jeffrey, who talked about how the health care system shouldn't be enrtrusted to the government because things aren't so bad the way they are.
I'll lay odds that Mr. Jeffrey has health insurance. I'll also bet he has never sat next to his child as he died and wished he could have gotten the care he needed. I found myself yelling at the radio. How dare he, in his comfort, say he doesn't want to force healthcare to be entrusted to the government? We are the only industrialized nation in the world that lets people die because we can afford to treat them but choose not to.
Leave it up to charity? Bull. That's a steaming pile of crap. Charity treats as many people as it can, but if you're not in a place that has the right program at the right time, you die. If you and everyone you love have access to healthcare, I suppose that's fine.
But for 47 million people, that's not the case. Things aren't OK for them, Mr. Jeffrey, even if they're just ducky for you.
