First, the most important thing: The shadow on my son's CT scan isn't cancer . It's scar tissue from the radiation treatments he had more than two years ago. His surgical urologist described it as "Radiation is the gift that keeps on giving." Damage can occur five years after treatments. That's OK. It wasn't cancer.
And they suspect the severe abdominal pain was from an infection.
So, he's home now, and complaining about little things again: the computer's slow, the TV's not working right, he can't find fresh basil at the store ... I never thought I'd be grateful to hear him whine about inconsequential things.
Now for the second most important thing: THE RED SOX HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!
This is big for me because my husband, both my sons and all four of my grandchildren are Yankees fans. They're really good at gloating when the Yankees win, but they sure are snarly when the Red Sox win. It's so sweet. Not quite as sweet as 2004, though; we had to beat the Yankees to get there that year and that was very nearly as sweet as the World Series win.
Oh, and they won it on my son's 35th birthday. I decided not to rub that in too much. Just a quick mention.
In 2004, we were coming off an 86-year drought, so it was an incredible high -- especially after a couple glasses of champagne. I still waited for them to blow it this year, the way they did so many times before. This rooting for a winner is going to take some getting used to!
