I guess there are certain things you don't want to know about your mother. Pat and I were discussing how happy we are to be over the hot flashes, and Michael sort of freaked out. It's not like we were talking about anything disgusting, but it was more information than he wanted, apparently.
I had lunch with Buddy Corbin today, one of the good Baptists. He's a hospice chaplin now, but I knew him when he was still a pastor of a good-sized Baptist church in West Asheville. He wanted to know how I'm doing. Well. I'm exhausted almost beyond description, but the work I'm doing is exactly what I want to be dong right now. He encouraged me to talk about what I need. I told him Michael has actually gotten slightly stronger this week -- enough to gain false hope for a miracle.
Both James and Janet admit they have the same fantasy. We all know that's what it is, but we can't help daydreaming.
We had some fun when Kathy Squires came over with some wine. Her granddaughter, Anna, loved Beasley and just wanted to play catch with him. Kathy, Pat and I spent some time talking as experienced middle-aged women.
Tomorrow is a busy day. Several people are coming from Cary. I don't want this many people, but they insisted. Well, I'll keep watch, and the drama queen will be escorted out if she so much as starts to wind up a wail. I mean it.
James got here tonight and it's like having family get home. We teased him when he went into the room where Christina is sleeping to check on the computer.
"You have to marry her now, man. You've stolen her honor.'
"I can't do it. She's too much like Mike."
They went to dinner with Pat, who treated them all for their kindness to Michael.
Danny and Jennifer and the kids went to Dollywood today and they'll be back here tomorrow morning. Maybe Danny and Christina will wrestle tomorrow.
It was a fun day. Tomorrow will be hectic and then Sunday will be a little quieter. Mike and I will have a lot more time to visit during the week, when things look like they'll settle down.
